Valspar Highlights Waterborne Technology Leadership at Asia Conference
Valspar Aquaguard® continues to lead container industry in protection, sustainability
The spotlight was on Valspar March 22-24 at the Intermodal Asia 2016 conference, one of Asia's largest events for the global container, transport and logistics industry, covering all areas of container transport and logistics across road, rail and sea. This third annual show, held in Shanghai, China, attracted hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees from across the region.
A pioneer in developing waterborne technology, Valspar demonstrated its leadership in waterborne container coatings at the show. The Valspar team showcased Aquaguard®, a zinc-free waterborne coating solution that provides the shipping container industry superior protection against corrosion. The team highlighted the fact that Valspar has reached the milestone of coating 370,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) dry containers since it began production in 2010.
"Valspar's achievements were highly recognized by our customers in the exhibition," said Henry Wu, vice president & general manager. "With the strong emphasis on environmental responsibility, all container manufacturers and owners strive to forge a road of development in waterborne coatings. Valspar is ahead of the game."
Yutao Yang, PhD, technical manager of Valspar GI coating, detailed the performance and application of Aquaguard, a100% waterborne system. Compared to traditional solvent-based, zinc-rich, three-coat systems, Aquaguard needs only two coats, which simplifies the application process, provides better protection and reduces VOCs by up to 94%.
One of the event highlights was the signing of the "Declaration of Environmental Action" by the China Container Industry Association. The declaration stated that the container industry will endeavor to observe new environmental policies and "commit together and act together" to promote waterborne coatings to reduce VOC emissions substantially by the end of 2017.
"Making waterborne-coated containers remains the focus for this conference," Wu said. "This action should get the industry there faster. Valspar regards environmental protection as its basic social responsibility, devotes itself to make green products and incorporates the concept of sustainability and environmentalism into the whole life circle of our container coating system. Together, the container industry will grasp this opportunity to reach a new stage of coating technology."
